This entire album, Celestial Vision, feels like a summons from the Greek Gods, of lore. The album feels like you are sitting in a movie theater watching an epic story unfold before you. Celestial Vision is a wonderful trip through what I believe is the future of metal. Powerful soprano vocals mixed well with cinematic orchestration, power drums and electric guitar. Simply, and boldly, out of this world, theatrical level music sound and production. Thunder from the gods on high. Symphonic metal that will rock your world and your ears. Tender, yet bold messages of securing the best out of this life we live.

One of the strongest arguments people that don’t like Metal music use to posit is that Metal is musically limited meaning that its basis is poor. I didn’t agree with it back then before starting to work here and knowing so many bands whose music is anything but limited and I couldn’t agree less today. I said it a million times and I’ll say it again. Metal music isn’t limited. Maybe, just maybe, Metal music is the only musical genre that allows itself to always search for the perfect sound. So, bands look for the best musical fit for their music and that means combining it to so many other genres. The myriad of great bands I have reviewed here is the proof of my point.

All the people I know who have taken holidays in Greece are unanimous in their love for the country. Unfortunately, I have never been, but I do know that there are a host of incredible Greek bands. Having reviewed some great albums by a few of them, my interest was piqued by a new name on the scene.

Introducing themselves to the metal world, Mystfall from Athens make a strong entrance with their debut album “Celestial Vision.” Their record label Scarlet Records have given them the epithet of ‘Sleek Celestial Symphonic Metal.’ To that you need to add a mix of influences including Celtic and Classical…

It’s hard – incredibly hard – to find any wiggle room in the World of symphonic/operatic metal. The scene now is so saturated – and not only saturated, but saturated with high-quality acts to boot – that there seems nowhere to go for any new bands trying to add their voice to the choir if they have no point of difference beyond their own individual take on the genre.

So what are we to make, then, of the ‘sleek celestial symphonic metal’ of Greek newcomers Mystfall? Can a band that sounds like a mix of the less memorable bits of Xandria and Epica make a go of things in the current overheated climate?

On the face of it, they shouldn’t be able to, but there is something lurking in the shadows of this band that suggests…

Metal Epidemic

Celestial Vision is the eagerly awaited debut album from Greek Symphonic/Gothic Metal band Mystfall. Celestial Vision is a superbly crafted album with elements of Celtic, Cinematic and Classical music fused with beautiful operatic style vocals, allowing Mystfall to deliver a spellbinding and enchanting first release that will instantly captivate your interest.

Mystfall is Marialena Trikoglou (vocals), Kostas Mexis (vocals), Panagiotis Leontaritis (guitar), Dida Racotoarison (keyboards), Antonis Desousis (bass) and Manos Agouridis (drums).

Resting Heaven is a cinematic style orchestral introduction that slowly builds up your anticipation of what’s to come. The band then unleash the title track, Celestial Vision, and it’s everything that you would expect and more. Choral and Operatic vocals are beautifully blended, with occasional brutal male vocals. The soundtrack is just divine, with fabulous orchestral arrangements sprinkled with just enough Metal to add some real bite…
